I love BMW Z3, but cannot afford a new one. I am planning to buy a 1999-2000 model. My friends say that it will cost me a lot in repairs, and that I am better off buying a newer model or honda or something, and buy a new Z3 when I can. Are there any Z3 owners who can give me any guidence. Any comments is greately appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, i drive a Z3 1999 which has currently just hit the 160K miles. if its really only done 70k then depending on the price it might be a good purchase. Recent problems with mine that are really to do with age is a roof leak which i am waiting for the next lot of rainfall to see if i have fixed (gasket sealant applied to the end bars of the window where they join the roof). This is caused apparently by the rubber seals shrinking as they get older. I have an issue where by the drivers door has decided not to unlock with the rest of the central locking anymore and one of the windows is a bit tempermental. Other than that i dont seem to have many problems with it as i keep it regularly serviced. Dont under estimate howmuch the up keep costs however as tyres and servicing add another £400 - £500 a year on the up keep x:)
