the airbag sign on my bmw 523i se auto is always on what can i do please to repair it

I have the same problem in my Nissan 350Z, and the garage just quoted me £1500 to replace all of the passenger side airbags and computer!!!! Clearly when the guy told me this I responded quite badly ;-)

The off the record fix (according to the garage) is to take the fascia off the dashboard and remove the light bulb to the airbag warning light - but I have to do that myself - they won't do it.
