Hi Everyone,

I had a slightly alarming incident this morning. My 1997 Z3 2.8 lost power whilst I was at speed in the outside lane of the motorway! Engine was still running but nothing happened when I pressed the gas pedal. I managed to get onto the hard shoulder and as I slowed the engine cut out completely. Whilst at a standstill I turned the ignition key and it started back up and ran without incident until I reached my destination 30 mins later.

I've booked the car into a trusty BMW mechanic but he can't look at the car for two weeks. I was wondering:

1) Has anyone else experienced this or similar?
2) Anyone got any ideas what might have caused it?
3) Any idvice about things I could do over the next two weeks to prevent a reccurance?

I appreciate I might not have given enough information for a definitive diagnosis. Hopefully my mechanic will do this when I see him. I'm really just interested in experiences and suggestions. Needless to say, all help very much appreciated.
