I have a 2002 BMW 525i that a few weeks ago had a faulty alternator. As the battery went to dead all of the warning lights started to flash. I have replaced the alternator and at first everything was fine. Now I get certain warning lights that stay on. The tail light and air bag. Despite the fact that all the brake and tail lights are working. Now I am intermittently getting an oil and battery warning light. If I drive for a while the oil light will go on and off. If I come to a complete stop sometimes, but not always the battery warning light will go off. Any Ideas?

you need to reset the ECU. or plug it into a laptop and remove the error codes... ( with the right software)

It sounds as though there may be a short somewhere.
The first think I would do is take it somewhere like AutoZone and have them plug in the diagnostic unit and see if any diagnostic codes appear, (They do this for free).
I really think this problem is a coincedence with your alternator, but who knows.
Start with the diagnostic codes...

go to the BMW direct, i own a 7 series and i had a similar problem, theyll check it for free
I would have an expert check the body control module, or the microprocessor unit that is in the instrument cluster.
this happened to me, but i drive a 3-series . just make sure all the wires to the battery are tightly fastened, one of mine wasn't so when i'd hit a pothole or something, it'd cause all the lights in my vehicle and on the outside of the vehicle 'flash' like go off for about a second or 2, then turn back on. also, if your tail light means it's also the same light saying if your trunk is ajar, look at your license plate lights, one of mine was out which caused that light to stay on forever. and as for the oil light, mine still does that to this day, but whenever i put a little more oil in the engine, it doesn't do that for about a week .
