nothing leaks on the car (new water pump, hoses) and it runs a temp of about 185 in clean air (when moving) but pushes all the way to about 215 when idling (using an aftermarket gauge) within 5-10 minutes. cause for concern or not. preciate any insight.

that's about right. The days of 180 are over. Engines actually run better around 210 220..

You should get it checked. Thats way abnormal.
