Hi I am looking to purchase a brand new 2008 BMW X3 si.

Does anyone have experience with any start up issues on it in extreme cold conditions (it drops to -35 to -40degC for weeks in a row where I live. Average winter temp hovers around -25degC though). I already have a car in the garage thus this one will need to be outside.
Any idea if it comes with a engine block heater attached and whether its possible to install a remote starter on it?

Thanks!

If you live in those kinds of temperatures, you really should use synthetic oils rated at 0W-30 (Castrol) or 0W-40 (Mobil 1). They work on extreme cold temperatures very well.

You may add a remote starter, but it would require you to leave a spare key hidden in the car for the transponder to work.

I don't believe BMW has any engine block heaters. But you could probably install one in aftermarket.

My experience with BMW is that after prolonged exposure of extreme cold temepratures, the LCDs in the BMW will experience some dead pixels after some time...

But the engine should have no problems.

Needless to say, you'll need a good set of winter tires no matter what. AWD is nothing if you have no traction.
